How To Increase Your Wealth
Opening
"[Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you]"
"[All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and companions all together.]"
"[In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.]"
The Economic Reality
One of the most popular topics today, whenever you sit in a gathering with a Muslim, whether it's in a restaurant, in the house, in the masjid, outside the masjid. One of the most popular topics people talk about everywhere right now. The high expenses for living these days.
The prices of the gas. People talk about gas prices. Oh my God, it's already so high. How are you going to survive? They talk about it now. The life standard is getting beyond their reach. It's getting very hard and difficult for them.
They try and strive more and more to catch up. But I think it's getting difficult and more difficult. The economic situation, the economic condition of the world is having its impact on the individual's life.
Muslims and non-Muslims. Subhanallah. If it was just about accessories, that would be fine. Not too many people would be affected. But when it comes to the basic needs, that's when it gets so scary. When people think that it's going to be very hard for them to survive, provide for their families, it gets harder and harder.
Many, many people, their living is based on gas prices. And therefore, they feel that it's going to be very dangerous if it keeps going on like this. How can we compensate for that? People, they try to compensate by working harder and harder.
Adding extra hours. Two or three hours over time, they can earn more money. Some people, they try to find another job. Or even change jobs. And if their spouse won't work, they would suggest that their spouse would help around the house. Do something inside or outside. Just help me with the expenses for this life. They try every possible means in order to catch up and compensate for this great loss, what he considers loss in money and their income.
Just this week, a few days ago, the deadline for tax filing was over. And I'm sure many people did. And many people are still waiting. Those who specifically self-employed, what they are doing, they are applying everything, they put all their income, and they put as many expenses as possible to ensure as much return as possible. Waiting for some kind of material return. Which means they're looking for extra income in a different way.
But, is this really the best way of increasing your income? Are there any other way, any other means that we can find in this deen, this beautiful deen, to ensure us security, job security, financial security, blessing from Allah سبحانه وتعالى
Don't get scared. I know, in such material place, material life like ours today, people get so materialistic in the way they think, and how to even earn a good living, and how to compensate for all these losses. The Quran, the book of Allah سبحانه وتعالى a divine message. What does the Quran have to do with this? How does the Quran teach us on how to manage our financial life, the wealth, the money, that people all cry about today. How do you learn lessons from the Quran? In order to ensure that it's all in the hand of Allah سبحانه وتعالى providing you with job security, financial security. Have no fear, it's all in the hand of Allah سبحانه وتعالى
The Promise of Allah
In this lecture, I would like to present to you, what does the Quran say, about wealth, about money, about halal sources for your money and for your wealth. So rest assured, that if you follow the instruction of the Quran, Allah سبحانه وتعالى will provide for you. Many many people they go again, and they start counting all these material means of income, but the Quran provides us with completely alternative way, an alternative method, in increasing your wealth, and increasing your money, and giving you this financial security.
This is what the Quran says, some of the heavenly views of the Quran, regarding wealth and regarding money. We learned this before from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
(Sunan Ibn Majah Hadith 4105)
"[Anyone who makes his concern the Day of Judgment, Allah will suffice him of all other concerns of this life. If you just concern yourself about that day, that it's gonna come for sure, Allah will take care of everything for you.]"
Allah سبحانه وتعالى will give you wealth, you become rich in your heart. You don't overlook, or look to other people, and what they have, because you're satisfied with what Allah سبحانه وتعالى provides for you. And here's what the Quran says about wealth and about money.
Human Nature and Wealth
As human beings, Allah سبحانه وتعالى created us with this inclination towards desiring and loving money and wealth. Anyone who claims, not a man, not a woman, those who claim that we don't love money, no, no, no, I'm not that person who loves money or wealth. Allah سبحانه وتعالى says that you do love money and wealth.
"[And you love wealth with excessive love.]"
Even if you try to deny that. You love it, don't deny it. It's not a shame to love that wealth. It's okay to do so. But when you do it, do it moderately.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:
"[Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life.]"
There must be a desire for men, for people. The desire to what? Of women. Of sons. Accumulated treasures of gold and silver. We love that. Allah سبحانه وتعالى created us, and He knows exactly our instincts and feelings toward these material things.
It is okay to do so. However, if you know, if you love this, and you know that you have it in your hand, you should realize the principle and the concept of this world and money. Number one.
True Ownership Belongs to Allah
The ownership is to Allah سبحانه وتعالى . You miserable creature, you don't own what you have in your hand. It's a trust been given to you by Allah سبحانه وتعالى .
"[To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth and whatever is between them and whatever is under the soil.]"
Allah عز وجل said:
""
"[Say, "I hold not for myself [the power of] benefit or harm, except what Allah has willed. And if I knew the unseen, I would have acquired much good, and no ill would have touched me. I am not except a warner and a bringer of good tidings to a people who believe."]"
"[And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is over all things competent.]"
"[To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males.]"
"[To Allah belong the depositories of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not understand.]"
Allah سبحانه وتعالى said:
"[Believe in Allah and His Messenger and spend from what Allah has made you successors over.]"
So what you have in your hand is a trust given to you by Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
Whether it's little or it's much, say alhamdulillah all the time. Allah عز وجل makes this wealth and money provision for you. It is provision.
So it is part of the provision prescribed by Allah سبحانه وتعالى and determined for you, man or woman, adults or children. Allah عز وجل said:
"[O you who believe, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth.]"
From what We have provided for you. Allah provided that for you. So spend from what Allah سبحانه وتعالى has provided for you.
The Islamic Concept of Money
Money, Islamic concept of money. It should be in the hand of the people to stimulate the market, and make business, and gain profit. It is all halal. Therefore Allah سبحانه وتعالى forbade monopoly.
No one is allowed to keep this money in their hand. And that's why zakah came, to break this monopoly. That's why inheritance law came, to break this monopoly. After people collect money, millions of dollars in their hand, what happens? When they die, they prescribe this, or they just put it in their will, to their children, or maybe to some individual in their life, or just for anything. Allah سبحانه وتعالى mandates that the wealth should be distributed between their heirs in a specific share, so that to break this monopoly. So it's always in the hand of the public.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى says about it:
""
"[So that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you.]"
So wealth doesn't stay concentrated in the hands of the wealthy in society. It's always among the population. And if so, it is Allah سبحانه وتعالى's hikmah and wisdom, to distribute this wealth the way He wishes. سبحانه وتعالى.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:
"[And it is He who has made you successors upon the earth and has raised some of you above others in degrees that He may test you through what He has given you.]"
It's a test. Being rich is a test. Being poor is a test. Being in the middle is a test. You're always under a test, to see if you're gonna be thankful, grateful to Allah سبحانه وتعالى, or thankless to Allah عز وجل.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:
"[And Allah has favored some of you over others in provision.]"
Part of the test, to see who's thankful and who is not.
"[Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord?]"
No, it is for Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Those who believe, and realize that wealth is a trust in their hands. They know that the poor has a haqq, has a right in this wealth. The poor has a right. When you give charity, you are giving the right of the poor. You are not making a favor for him or for her. That's the right of the poor.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:
"[And in their wealth there is a right for the [needy] petitioner and the deprived.]"
And from their properties was [given] the right of the [needy] petitioner and the deprived.
Those who are less fortunate, it's our responsibility to take care of them. Now, by that we realize, all this wealth we have in our hands, it's coming from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) controlled by Allah (عزوجل - azza wa jal), and by the grace of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) we should be thankful to Him.
Divine Sources of Increased Wealth
How can I earn more money in this life? I know, we are used to say, why don't you take specific classes, why don't you take, you know, kind of financial management courses, all these kind of things.
Have you ever heard of any divine financial, or financial management course or class, anywhere on earth? It is there in the Quran. If you would like to earn more money, then you need to make specific efforts. And here how you can earn more money, by the grace of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) from the Quran.
And here are these sources that next time, when you start counting, and you make your check and balance, add these to your income. And here they are.
Source 1: Always Seek Halal
Number one, always look for the halal source. Halal will double and multiply the barakah and the blessing in your wealth. If you don't do so, it will consume your wealth, and the value of it is going to go down and down.
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) says:
O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good.
Take that which is good and lawful to you. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) will put blessing for you in there.
Source 2: Taqwa (Righteousness)
The second source that you need to care for, if you want to increase your money and your wealth, is taqwa. Righteousness and piety. Subhanallah, how come? People might say, I mean, come on, what are you talking about? How am I going to get money just by being so righteous? Well, that's the promise of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) in the Quran.
Allah (عز وجل - azza wa jal) said:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
Whoever acts righteously, Allah will find for them an exit from all hardships in this life. Will provide for them from sources and means they cannot even imagine. You can't even imagine where the rizq and provision might come to you. Wallahi, the experience of so many people on earth will amaze you how Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) provides for people just by showing signs of righteousness in their life.
Would you like to increase your income? Act righteously. If you want extra wealth and income, act righteously, and Allah will provide for you.
Source 3: Istighfar (Seeking Forgiveness)
The third source, seeking forgiveness. Subhanallah. How come? Just by saying Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah. Oh my Lord, forgive me. Counting hundreds of times Astaghfirullah every day and every night will increase your wealth.
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) said:
In the story of Nuh (عليه السلام - alayhis salam), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) says about him: I said to them, ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers and give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.
Allah will increase your wealth and give you more children. Wealth, just by seeking istighfar. Put this in your income. It doesn't take much of your time if you just count istighfar in the morning and the night. And Allah will increase your wealth through that.
Source 4: Shukr (Gratitude)
Number four. Being thankful and grateful to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala). To thank Allah (عز وجل - azza wa jal) it means a new source of income to you.
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) says:
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more.'
If you give thanks, I will give you more. If you thank Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) enough, Allah will give you more. Ask yourself that question. Look around you and see how much Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) has been giving you.
Have you given enough thanks? Have you said that? Are you saying enough alhamdulillah? When there is a chance to show your gratitude to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala), are you demonstrating that? Give thanks and Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) will give you more.
Source 5: Charity (Giving Away)
Next. And this is a paradox. One of the sources of income, instead of taking, it's giving away. To give charity is a source of income. How come? I'm giving my money away right now. You tell me that I'm going to earn money through this? Absolutely. That's the promise of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala). For everything that you give out, you give it away.
Allah will replace that. Ten times. Hundred times. Seven hundred. And Allah will multiply as much as He wishes (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala). Whatever you spend, whatever you give as a charity, Allah will replace it.
Allah will replace that. So don't get scared when they ask you for donation. They're making you a favor that you are now giving, and Allah will multiply that to you.
The Key: Faith and Belief
It is very important that when we do so, we do this with full iman. That we truly believe in that. That when I give thanks to Allah, I am indeed showing gratefulness to my Lord, and I ask for His mercy and extra provision.
When I act righteously, I'm doing it having hope in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) to reward me in this dunya and in the akhira as well. When I give charity, I have that strong belief that it's all in the hand of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala). And Allah shall multiply this for me in this dunya and the akhira.
Someone might ask that question. But how do you mean? How does this happen? How does this happen? Multiplication of the wealth. How will this happen if I follow these instructions of the Quran? There are so many ways of doing so.
How Allah Increases Wealth
Our ulema, may Allah have mercy on them, explain many of the ways Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) will provide for us if we follow these heavenly guidelines and instructions of the Quran. They say, number one, barakah, blessing in the wealth. Allah will put blessing in your wealth, which means what? It increases the value of the money.
When you go, instead of buying something for $5, you're gonna buy it for $2, saving you $3. You go and buy a car, and you have an intention to buy it for $5,000, and subhanAllah, Allah will bring you to a bargain to get a car for $2,000, saving you $3,000. Does this happen arbitrarily like this? It is Allah who plans these things for you.
To give you extra income in the cash that you already have in your hand. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) will provide you people who can help, and by their help, it will save you money. How many times, maybe your car broke, and you start worrying and think, oh my God, how much I'm gonna be paying for this? And someone guides you to a mechanic shop, you go, this is a good brother, he will help you, insha Allah (تعالى - ta'ala).
You go there and you do it for free. And it's all coming from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala). Isn't it saving you some money? Does it increase in your wealth? There are so many ways, and Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) has His way to send you the wealth and increase your wealth in a subtle manner, and a very very open manner as well.
The Richness of the Heart
When you give people who feel so content about it. Being so content in your heart makes you so rich. But if you don't have this contentment in your heart, regardless how much money you have in your hand, you'll always feel poor, and you'll always feel so needy.
Contentment of the heart, if Allah provides you with this contentment of the heart, you are the wealthiest person on earth. Because whatever you have in your hand, alhamdulillah, for you it's more than enough. Because it's all coming from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala).
Conclusion
So always ask Allah (عز وجل - azza wa jal) to bless you. Ask Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى - subhanahu wa ta'ala) to provide for you. And be thankful, be grateful. Make istighfar. Make dua. Act righteously. And give away charity to Allah. And Allah shall give back to you.
Closing Dua
"O Allah! Bless us in what You have provided for us, and enrich us through Your lawful provision and keep us away from the unlawful, and through Your grace make us independent of all others."
May Allah bless us in what He has provided for us, and enrich us through His lawful provision and keep us away from the unlawful, and through His grace make us independent of all others. Ameen.
