Impact of Youth in Today's Society
Talk by Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan
Opening and Introduction
As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Alhamdulillahi rabbil alameen. Wa salatu wa salamu ala sayyidi al-anbiyai wal-mursaleen wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajma'een.
"And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless."
"And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing."
"[Moses said], My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] And ease for me my task And untie the knot from my tongue That they may understand my speech."
Alhamdulillahi wa salatu wa salamu ala Rasulillah.
Core Issues Affecting Muslim Youth
What I do want to talk to you folks about is trying to identify some of the core reasons why young people aren't as proactive and, you know, dedicated, if you will, in terms of religious service and getting involved in the community and getting involved in, you know, youth activism and things like that.
Allah's Expectations and Human Responses
And what I wanted to do is take a, basically a Quranic picture and share some insights with you on Allah, as I've been highlighting, different kinds of people that refuse to take action. Right, Allah, azza wa jalla, in different scenarios in the Quran, He talks about people that He expects something from them and they don't, they fall short of the expectation that is there of them.
And so, most of the time, this happens with Muslims. In other words, Allah, azza wa jalla, has this expectation of believers and they fail that expectation and Allah, azza wa jalla, reprimands them and highlights the reasons for which they are not meeting the standard that they should.
But actually, even before that in the Quran, it happens with the mushrikun, they're human beings. Allah doesn't just have expectations from Muslims, He has expectations from human beings. He's the master of all of us, believe it or not. So when human beings fail His expectations, He also reprimands them and highlights some of the reasons why they fell into this trap.
Study Reference: Surah Al-A'raf
For your own studies, if you want to look at human beings, generally, not just Muslims, non-Muslims too, not meeting what Allah expects them to meet, and then Allah highlighting what are the root causes for
human beings doing that, that's in Surah Al-A'raf, the 7th surah. It's a dedicated study just of that. Why do human beings fall short of Allah, azza wa jalla's expectations? I'll highlight some of that for you a little bit later today.
Focus on the Early Muslim Community
But first, I want to turn attention to the Muslims themselves. And just from the Quran's point of view, talking about those, the first of the believers who struggled in the path of Allah. May Allah be pleased with all of them, the first generation, the companions of the Messenger, alaihi s-salatu wa s-salam.
The Story of Khabbab ibn al-Aratt
You know, in Surah Al-Ankabut, the 29th surah, there is an interesting conversation that happens. There's a companion of the Messenger, alaihi s-salatu wa s-salam, radhiAllahu anhu, his name is Khabbab ibn al- Aratt. When he became Muslim, he's one of the few vicious victims of torture from the Meccans. They hated the fact that he became Muslim.
So what some people did, some gangsters basically did, they grabbed him, they took burning coal on the ground, and they laid it down on him, and they stepped on him. So that his back would melt. The skin off of his back burned, and eventually it melted.
It melted. And he came in that state to the Messenger, salallahu alayhi wa sallam, completely blistered back. And he came to the Messenger, alaihi s-salatu wa s-salam, and he told him, why is this happening to us? If we're the Muslims, we're the believers, we're the receivers of the Quran, here in the final revelation, why would these kinds of things happen to us? What have we done to deserve this?
The Messenger's Response and Divine Revelation
And the Messenger, alaihi s-salatu wa s-salam, was about to respond, and he did, and he said, you're rushing to judgment. You're rushing. He even told him, you're not being patient. Told him he's not being patient.
Now first of all, before I even go further, compare that patience to our patience. How much does it take for us to start complaining, and what does a companion have to go through before he opens his mouth and says, why is this happening to me? Right? There's a big difference already.
But interestingly then, the ayat of Surah Al-Ankabut were revealed. The first few ayat of Surah Al-Ankabut, the 29th surah were revealed when Allah responds to this complaint.
The Divine Test - Surah Al-Ankabut
And Allah, Azza wa Jal, says:
"Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and will not be tried?"
Do people assume that they're going to be left alone just because they say they believe? That the fact that they said they've come to Iman, that's enough for them? That they're going to be allowed into Jannah? It's just enough for them? That they're not going to be thoroughly tested?
Understanding the Concept of Fitna
Interestingly, the word fitna was used. I'm sure you've heard the word fitna before. Don't go to that program, it's a fitna. You know, you're a fitna, whatever. But you've heard this term before. But let me tell you the word fitna, what it originally comes from. The word fitna in Arabic is actually used when you test metal.
When you purify gold, or you appraise gold, you know, it's been melted, to see what it's worth. That process is called fitna. It actually involves burning and then testing. And Allah Azza wa Jalla literally used the word in a scenario in which somebody was just burned. He was just physically burned. And Allah says, you don't think you're going to be put to the heat a little? Before you can just... So the quality of what you've said with your tongue is tested? That's the reason you're going to go through these things.
The Nature of Divine Testing
You know, every one of us, Allah Azza wa Jalla will test. And these people are not being tested. It's not that Allah says, I'm a nice guy, I don't do anything wrong, why should I go through this? It's actually because he became Muslim.
All of his problems, you can say if he looks back, even those who are beating him up are saying, you know, all these problems that are happening to you, we've got no problem with you. It's just that you're Muslim. So you can blame your God for all of this. It's your Islam that brought all of this to you. You follow what I'm saying?
The Temptation to Abandon Faith
So there's a reason for him, for Khabbab to say, you know what, I don't need to deal with this. I don't need to put myself through this. All my problems came at me because of this one thing, this Islam thing. Why don't I just take it easy with it? Even if I don't leave it altogether, why don't I just not think about it too much? Because every time I try to act on it, even a little trouble comes my way. So why don't I just leave it alone?
Allah Azza wa Jalla says to those, to us, all of us, this remarkable statement, have you assumed that you will be left alone? Have you assumed that you will be left alone? In other words, when we do come to this faith, it will be tested.
Tests Come Either Way
But the other thing here, the other meaning, and the other constant theme in the Quran is we will not be left alone either way. We're not going to be left alone whether we commit ourselves to the faith or if we don't commit ourselves to the faith. People here know the stories of Bani Israel. Expectations were made of them too. And they didn't meet those expectations. Did they have trials and difficulties in this life?
Have you ever read any of the trials and difficulties that the Israelites had to go through that Allah makes mention of over and over again in the Quran?
These are not people that went through difficulty because they believed. It's because of the lack of their faith they went through difficulty. You know where difficulty will come to you? Either way. It's not like one or the other. If I had stayed on, my problems would go away. No, no, no, no, no. This world is about being tested. Either way. Whether you're top-level believers or you're messing up pretty badly, you're still going to go through trials and difficulties.
Why People Fail to Move Forward
This is one reason why people fail to move forward. Because I'm a good person, I'm doing well. I try to be a better person. How come problems come my way? How come problems come your way? Because that's part of the program. That's part of your training. That's part of what Allah Azza wa Jalla puts you and me through to test what is this iman worth to you and me?
Common Youth Struggles with Faith
One of my favorite examples, Alhamdulillah, I get a chance to meet youth and sometimes have personal conversations with them. And one of the most common things I'm hearing over and over again is somebody goes through a difficult trial, they have a trauma in their life, something bad happens, and ever since then they kind of lose their faith.
They just, you know, why would Allah do this to me? Sort of thing. And they just, they lose hope and they don't want to deal with religion anymore. They want nothing to do with it. I made so many du'as, and this is what happened. It didn't happen for me. It's, you know, why would Allah abandon me like that? This kind of rhetoric, I haven't heard it once or twice. I've heard it many, many, many times from a lot of young people across the country. Maybe some of you are even sitting here in the audience. Right? Why would this happen to me?
The Example of Prophet Yusuf
Now, here's the thing. If there's someone who has the right to argue that they're innocent, and they don't, they deserve better, something bad shouldn't have happened to them, they deserve better, then you guys can probably agree that that should be someone like Yusufalayhi as-salam. Young kid, what crime has he done? A child by definition is innocent. He doesn't deserve to be kidnapped. He doesn't deserve to be put in a well.
He doesn't deserve to be sold as a slave. Child trafficking is what it's called nowadays, by the way. Right? No child deserves to be trafficked. He doesn't deserve to be thrown into a prison as an innocent man. He doesn't deserve any of these things. And if you saw any other human being going through things like that nowadays, you'd say, you know, why would that poor child go through these things? What has he ever done to anyone to deserve any of this? Why would God let that happen? That would be the question. Why would God let that happen?
Personal Reflection on Suffering
I say often to my students, if a parent, like I'm a parent, if I was watching something about a child being abducted on the news, like Yusufalayhi as-salam was abducted, if I saw a news report about a child's shirt with blood on it found in the woods, if I caught on news about some child being sold as a slave to another country, I would be so disturbed I'd turn the TV off. I'd change the channel. I wouldn't be able to watch.
You know, and imagine if me, that's not even my child, I'm just thinking a child that bothers me so much. Imagine the parents themselves. Imagine the parents themselves. And then on top of that, imagine that child. Don't you think that child is smart? You know, when you go through difficult times, you need somebody to blame. You need to have somebody to blame.
The Response of Prophets to Trials
Read that surah with that point of view, you will discover something. You have the point of view of the parent, who am I talking about? A parent who's traumatized. Which parent am I talking about? Ya'qub alayhi as-salam. And you have a traumatized child. Who am I talking about? Yusufalayhi as-salam.
And as the surah continues, Allah teaches us, they turn back to Allah more and more and more. So what everybody else in the world today even uses as an excuse to turn away from Allah. I've got difficulties, Allah didn't help me, therefore I'm turning my back to Allah. They have difficulty and the worst of it, and what do they keep doing? They use that difficulty to turn back to Allah. Continuously. It's the reverse attitude.
Divine Therapy Through Stories
These aren't just stories, this is therapy from Allah. I argue this is one of the main reasons why we see young people today not standing up to take a role. To really become, you know, what they're supposed to become in this religion. Because they're looking for somebody to blame. If you're that person, you're just looking for somebody to blame, then you need to start with yourself. Blame yourself.
Blame your own laziness. Your own addiction to entertainment. Before you start blaming Allah and your friends and your parents, and this and that and the other.
Excuses on the Day of Judgment
And that's the next thing. Allah describes a person on Judgment Day who didn't meet Allah's expectations, but on Judgment Day he comes first and he says:
"If only Allah guided me. If Allah had taken care of me in this world, I would have been good. Even up until Judgment Day, he's like, it's not my fault. You see, Allah has this big plan and part of this plan was that I'd be a scumbag. That's what this whole thing is.
And then if that doesn't work, he goes next. He goes, you know, it was my ancestors. My parents did things a certain way, so I did it just like them. This is a very interesting argument, isn't it? This is the way we did things. That's just how our culture was. That's how my friends were. That's how our elders were. This is the society I came from. Society made me this way. I can't help it. I can't be different from everybody else.
Allah's Response to Excuses
You know how Allah responds to that argument in the Quran? It's incredible. Allah's responses to these arguments are worth studying and remembering. Surah Al-A'raf, I told you, right? In Surah Al-A'raf, Allah talks about our father. First father. Adam alayhi as-salam. And he says he extracted the children of Adam alayhi as-salam, their souls and Allah asked all of them. And he took a contract from all of us simultaneously.
"Am I not your master? All of us said yes. In other words, what we owe to Allah was simultaneously agreed by previous generations and next generations all at the same time. All of us at the same time before we came to this earth agreed with Allah that he's our master, we're his slaves.
Okay, that maybe some of you knew. But what a lot of times is not paid attention to is what comes afterwards. Right after that, what does Allah say next?
"I did this so you don't have the excuse to say oh, our parents did shirk way back then, that's why we did shirk. Our parents were messed up, our ancestors were messed up, that's why we were messed up. Allah says, I took all of your ancestors and your first ancestor, Adam alayhi as-salam and I took the agreement from all of you at the same time so you don't get to say it's my ancestry. Because your ancestry all agreed to Tawheed before they even got here.
You know, subhanAllah. It's amazing. He kills excuses. He destroys excuses.
The Deeper Message of Testing
But the example from, I want to come back to the example of the Messengeralayhi as-salam before I share a couple more quick examples with you. A Sahabi is going through torture for the sake of Islam and Allah is telling him get your act together. You have work to do. There's more to do.
"We thoroughly tested people that came much before you too. This is just one of those many tests that I've done before. You're not the first one. You think you're special that you've been tested for the first time. I've run these tests for ages. He's telling even that to a Sahabi, a companion of the Prophetsalallahu alayhi wa sallam. He's telling him that. I do all of this over and over again for only one reason.
So I can tell who's telling the truth and I can tell who's a liar. I can expose rather. What Allah means by that is Allah can expose. So Allah can expose the truthful and the liar.
Truth and Falsehood Among Believers
Now the question is, Allah is not talking to the disbeliever. In the ayah, Allah is not talking to the disbeliever. Allah is talking to people who say what? What are they saying? That they have Iman. They've come to faith. How come the people of Iman, Allah calls them truthful and liars? I thought everybody who says they have Iman, that is truthful.
And you would think, and those of you that know a little bit about the life of the Prophetsalallahu alayhi wa sallam. You know the concept of hypocrisy? Have you heard the term before? Which era of the Prophet's life do we deal with the subject of hypocrisy? The Meccan period or the Madani period? Call it out loud. The Madani period. Surah Al-Ankabut is Meccan.
Hypocrisy in the Meccan Period
It's Meccan. And in this surah, Allahsubhanahu wa ta'ala is talking about the truthful and the liar who claims to have Iman. In other words, even those sahabah are being told, look, if you don't live up to your expectations, then this is a dangerous road you're heading down.
And actually this is one of the rare instances where in Meccan Quran, the word (مُنَافِقِين - munafiqin) is used:
Same surah. It's used in the same surah. In other words, even those who are struggling for Islam, those volunteers in the back sitting here, you might feel like you're doing something for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. You and I might feel like that. We're active, you know. You're not immune from nifaq.
No Immunity from Hypocrisy
Even the sahabah in Mecca were told, this is a danger for you. Even you. Imagine what an incentive. You would think a hypocrite is somebody who comes to Islam with an ulterior motive. They might get something on the side out of becoming Muslim. But think about the people who came to Islam in Mecca.
They get nothing out of coming to Islam. They get nothing. They just get beatings, burnings, torture, insults, humiliation. They have nothing worldly coming out of Islam. Even they are in threat of hypocrisy according to Allahsubhanahu wa ta'ala. If they don't watch it. Even if they don't watch it. Nobody's immune.
Constant Self-Check Required
So this is the second thing I wanted to bring to your attention. Even the active. We have to keep our motivations in check. We have to go back and revisit them every time. But the main thing I wanted to talk to you folks about. The primary thing that I wanted to talk to you about. That I think is an epidemic and is destroying our youth, our generation of our youth. And it's overwhelmingly, I feel like it's destroying humanity. It's destroying humanity.
The Disease of Ghaflah (Heedlessness)
This is one word Allah uses in the Quran. And the word is Ghaflah. The Arabic word is Ghaflah. Ghaflah means to be oblivious. To not know what's going on around you. To be heedless. Ghaflah is someone you notice, you walked into the room, a guest came into the room and while you're still sitting there, you didn't get up and say salam. You didn't even notice somebody walked in. You're ghafil. You have no idea what's going on around you. You're kind of lost in your own world.
Modern Tools of Distraction
And the devices for ghaflah have become so accessible now. That all of you have the Netflix app on your phone. You have Google on your phone. You're constantly checking your Facebook updates. Your Twitter app. Your Angry Birds. You need to be connected to 3G or 4G all the time. And when you're not, at least you have the video game to save you.
So the brief moments where you can't get a connection, at least the video game is there. Or at least you downloaded a few songs. Or a couple of video clips or whatever. That'll keep your mind, you know, keep the drug going. And we've become wrapped up in this stuff so much that we've lost touch with what we're supposed to be doing in this world. Really.
The Death of Dhikr
It's the killer of dhikr. Ghaflah in the Quran is the killer of dhikr. What's happened with us with mobile devices? What's happened with us with addiction to entertainment? We can't get out of it. You find
yourself empty. You find yourself wanting to go back and do more and more and more. You can sit there for hours and hours and hours. Watch episode after episode after episode.
You can buy one role-playing game, then buy the next one, then buy the update, then buy the cheat code, then do it over again, and then play it online. Oh my God. You can live. Like literally the companion you've spent more time with than anyone else is your PS3. Some of you. The friend you've spent more time than anything else. Anyone else is this phone. Every few seconds you have to check. Like that guy over there. Right?
Spiritual Corruption Through Entertainment
It's destroying us. And you know what else it does? It's not like it's got a halal content filter. Right? So stuff makes its way through from here into your eyes and from your eyes into your heart. Constantly. Your heart and mind is constantly being attacked by images, by filthy words, by suggestions, you know, by language, by video, by sound.
It's being attacked constantly and it's deteriorating the state of our iman to the point where it's gotten so weak that even a reminder doesn't help. You're sitting there going, I don't have the attention span. I need to do something else. It's crazy. The lack of attention span today. It's incredible.
Declining Attention Spans
You know people could sit through not just like great khatibs and speakers or whatever, sermons, political speeches. It used to go for hours on end and people could be able to sit and listen through the whole thing and understand and pay attention. Nowadays, think about your attention span.
You're playing one game, you get bored, you pull out of that, you start playing the other games and now you gotta watch this video. It's even as long as too long. 30 seconds later you start watching the next one over after that. Or you forward it to the next part or this. You can't pay attention. And you get so attuned to that by the time you get to khutbatul juma what happens? Alhamdulillah, wa nastameen. That's what happens. Already? Right?
Allah's High Expectations
You guys have, especially young people, and this was the point of this talk sort of. Allah has high expectations from us. He really does. Especially from the Muslims. From all human beings but especially the Muslims. And I argue especially the Muslims living in America. Especially that.
Allah has gifted them with more opportunity, more blessings, more luxury than anywhere else. I mean really than anywhere else. And He's given us so many of these gifts that we've just taken for granted. We're not even doing anything to serve His deen at all.
Lack of Religious Activism
I feel like the cause of deen, even the active effort of you reminding your friends, being a good friend and saying, Hey, come on, let's go to the masjid and pray. Hey, come on, let's not go to the movie. Let's just go play some sports or something. Let's do something harmless instead of doing something harmful. Let's just go to this program together. Let's just do this or that. Just some of your friends.
You don't have to become a khatib or a speaker to serve deen. You just have to be a sincere friend to your friends. Be a source of goodness in the company around you. Just to do that much even it's gone, right? We don't find that kind of enthusiasm among each other.
Negative Peer Influence
Actually when friends get together, the worst of them comes out. For a lot of you, the worst of you comes out when you're hanging out with your friends. That's an indication of what kind of person that, who they are. That's the kind of person you are. Don't say it's your friends, it's you. You're the bad influence, not the friends.
If you're not a source of good, then there's only one other possibility. There's only one other possibility. That's the reality you have to wake up and face. We have to become people of good company, spending productive time together.
Practical Advice for Youth
At a young age, you get bored really easily. I can understand that and I respect it. Get a job. Seriously, get a job. Keep yourself busy. Take extra classes. Keep yourself busy. Don't be free.
Free time plus young age plus temptation equals spiritual death. Three things that don't go together. That will be the end of you. It will destroy your character. It will. You think it's harmless. It's not harmless. It's residual effects you will see later on in life when you're not able to run a family. When you're not able to be a decent person. You're not able to carry healthy relationships with people. It will have a toll on you. Don't waste your time now.
Using Your Energy Wisely
Now you have the energy. Look at your parents. Look at the elders in our community. We don't have the energy to even maybe take a walk around the house. Lack of energy. You guys have the energy to do a lot. Do it. Keep yourselves engaged. Don't let your youth go to waste with entertainment. Really.
The Slippery Slope of Entertainment
Again, I tell you the first thing that happens is once you have enough entertainment, you say this isn't enough. I need to acknowledge. Because of entertainment, the remembrance of Allah is gone. When the remembrance of Allah is gone, so is this fear. So Shaitaan comes and says, this isn't enough. I've got some more explicit stuff for you. That should be more entertaining for you.
And then you get addicted to filth. And then he takes the next step and says, hey, you think this is good? There's some chat rooms you can even meet up with people. It doesn't have to be virtual for you. The next steps will happen. It will all start with something harmless, like YouTube video addictions. But it will go far. It will go far if you let it. And for some of you, it already has. Some of you are already victims of this. And you know it. Can't even admit it to yourselves?
Wake-Up Call
Wake up. Erase the game apps off your phone. Do it. Seriously. You will survive, I promise. You will survive. You don't have to play words with friends. You can use words with friends. You know. You know. Just, you know, live a normal life.
Paradox of Modern Communication
It's incredible. We have more communication today, communication technology today, than ever in the history of humanity. Isn't that true? With social networking, and phones, and satellite communication, and high speed internet, and all these things. We have more communication today possible than ever before. And yet, human beings are less communicative. They're able to talk less now than ever before.
It's amazing. To me, it's fascinating. We can't even write one sentence properly spelled anymore. You know. I've heard people, youth have conversations, and the new thing now is to not say the whole word. It's a new thing. Right? Like, that was so ridiculous. And I hope I'm not dating myself like, in the US, in a company. Whatever. Her. It's not her. It's just her. And what does he say in response? Lol. Seriously.
Three Key Pieces of Advice
So my first bit of advice, keep yourselves busy. Find good company. Find good company, and keep yourselves busy. That's two things.
Advice on Parental Relationships
The third bit of advice for youth, really important advice for you guys, if you can't make time for your parents now, you never will in your life. Especially the teens here. You know your parents? The ones you don't like talking to? Those ones? Yeah, those ones.
If you can't make time for them now, you never will in your life. And you're sealing your deal, you will not have a good life. Your parents, more than anything else, are a source of blessing, are a source of keeping you humble.
You will hear things that will agitate you, that will annoy you, you will want to scratch the wall, you will want to bang your head into the window, but you will sit there quietly and listen patiently, and they will give you life advice, and you will say, mom, you don't know. You don't know, mom. You don't understand.
But you won't say it out loud, you'll say it in your mind. And your mom will say, why are you just chewing food? You know? You'll do that. But it will build your character. I'm telling you. It's a good testimony of your character, what kind of person you are, whether or not you can tolerate having long conversations with your mom and your dad.
Building Relationships with Parents
And the fact that you don't talk to them much, when you start now, all these complaints they've been building up for years, they're going to let them out in the first conversation. So don't be shocked by that. It's not always going to be like that. They're going to ease into a normal relationship, but it's really important that you have a healthy, open relationship with your parents. It's really, really important.
Youth Group Involvement
And then on top of that, get involved with youth. This is my youth activity, being around a youth group, being around other people that want to do something for their deen, something productive. It's really good for you. It's a good use of your time.
Personal Experience and Advice
I tell you, and I'll end with this, one of my personal experiences in life that I'm very grateful for. My parents left the country in 99, and I was in college at the time. And so I had two more years of college left, but I was living on my own in New York City, and no parental supervision. And this is lethal. It's very dangerous to do that.
But my dad had a plan, and it worked. Full-time job, full-time college, and whatever, maybe between those two things, I already have a 14-hour day. And then outside of that, I would either find time to study some Arabic, or go to a halaqa, or get together with some friends and go pray, or whatever. Even if I didn't do some religious, I could do something like basketball, or go out and get some pizza or something, whatever. But it wasn't harmful stuff, because I didn't have any time for it. I just didn't have any time for it. Just to keep myself busy.
And I tell you, I mean, my job, it was at a corporation in the city, in New York City. It wasn't like it was a spiritual experience. College is not a spiritual experience, but it kept me busy and out of trouble. It kept me busy.
The Problem with Modern Youth
You guys aren't busy enough. You're not doing enough. That's seriously the problem. And some of you are doing too much, and doing terrible at all those things. Find one or two things to do, and do them well. Instead of getting your hands into 20 things and messing all of them up. That's no way to live your life either. Find one or two things, but do them well. Do well in school, do well in your job.
Consistency in Religious Practice
Get into a study circle, into a youth program, whatever it may be. Don't give your life to it and sacrifice everything else. Do it regularly, persistently, make it a regular part of your life. And you'll cruise through your youth in a healthy way, in a mature way.
Spending Time with Elders
Spending time with your parents and elders, it'll make you more mature. And it'll make you realize that you have more maturity in you than you give yourself credit for. A lot of young people, they think of themselves as kids because they don't hang out with adults. They're actually adults pretending to be kids longer than they should. Just grow up.
Really. You know, you're a lot smarter, a lot more mature than you give yourself credit for. Just allow yourself to blossom that way. Allow yourself to take the benefit of the wisdom of our elders, inshaAllah wa ta'ala.
Closing Du'a
I pray that this brief reminder is of some benefit to you. I didn't get to share the ayat that I really wanted to share with you, but I'll leave that for another time, inshaAllah wa ta'ala.
May Allah give us tests that we can bear. I know we're all going to be tested. None of us are going to be left out, may Allah make our tests easy on all of us. And may Allah make us successful through our tests. And may Allah make us better and stronger believers as a result of these tests.
Wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
