Introduction to the Revelation of the Quran
Now, by the will of Allah, we'll be discussing the revelation of the Qur'an. As we know, the Qur'an was revealed over a period of 23 years. That the Qur'an started 13 years before the Hijrah of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), when the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was at the age of 40.
And the Qur'an ended 9 days prior to the death of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), when the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was at the age of 63. So, there were 13 years of revelation in Mecca, and 10 years of revelation in Medina.
The Question of Gradual Revelation
Now, a common question asked is, why did Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala reveal the Qur'an over a period of 23 years? This is a question that the companions used to ask the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), and even the Quraish, they used to rebuke the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), for not having the Qur'an revealed in one attempt.
Whereas the Torah and the Injeel, they were revealed by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in 23 years.
