Ramadan Khutbah

How the Devils are Locked Down in Ramadan

Opening Salutation

Opening Khutbah (Khutbat al-Hajah)

(الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ وَنَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ - al-ḥamdu lillāhi naḥmaduhu wa nastaʿīnuhu wa nastaghfiruhu wa naʿūdhu billāhi min shurūri ʾanfusinā wa min sayyiʾāti ʾaʿmālinā man yahdihillāhu falā muḍilla lahū wa man yuḍlil falā hādiya lahū wa ʾashhadu ʾan lā ʾilāha ʾillā-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahū wa ʾashhadu ʾanna muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh)

All praise belongs to Allah. We praise Him, we seek His forgiveness and His guidance. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our ego, and the evil results of our deeds.

Anyone whom Allah has guided, then no one can lead him astray. And anyone whom Allah has guided, has left alone to stray, then no one can guide him. And I bear witness that there is nothing worthy of worship, and no gods in reality, except Allah, who stands alone and has no partners.

And I bear witness that Muhammad ibn Abdillahi (صلى الله عليه وسلم - ṣallā-llāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) is his slave and his messenger.

Opening Verses

Allah says what could mean:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ

"O you who believe, have taqwa for Allah, fear Allah, be conscious of Allah, respect Allah. As it is His right to give Him this type of respect, this type of remembrance and consciousness and fear. And don't you dare die, except that you die as a Muslim."

Reference: Quran 3:102

"O mankind, to everyone, fear your Lord, have taqwa regarding your Lord, who is your Lord, the One who created you all from one soul, Adam. And created from that soul its mate, Eve. And raised up and spread from

the two of them, many men and women. And fear Allah, who is Allah, the One whom you ask things for, the One who you ask things for. And don't cut ties with the wombs that bore you. Important point. And don't cut ties with the wombs that bore you. Indeed Allah above us all is a guardian watcher."

Reference: Quran 4:1

"O you who believe, have taqwa for Allah, and then say a word that goes straight to the point. Don't beat around the bush. Fear Allah, be conscious of Allah, knowing that whatever you say is going to be written down. And then say a word that goes straight to the point."

Reference: Quran 33:70

"If you do this, Allah will make right something that you did wrong. He will straighten out your affairs. And forgive you your sins. And whoever is obeying Allah, and obeying his messenger, has already achieved the highest thing he can possibly achieve."

Reference: Quran 33:71

Introduction

As for what follows, then we have to understand, we have to know, without any doubt, that the best speech, the most truthful words you've ever heard, and will ever hear, are the speech of Allah, that Quran.

And the best guidance, the best way to do everything, anything you could think about doing was done by the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم - ṣallā-llāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) in the best and the ultimate way it can be done. So the best guidance is the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad

And with that in mind, then we also have to understand that every way that we take in this religion, this deen, the practice of our Islam, that goes against, or is opposite, or is not upon that guidance that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم - ṣallā-llāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) came with, then this thing is something that's going to lead us astray. And something that leads us astray, even if it's just a little bit, will eventually wind us up in the hellfire.

Alhamdulillah, it's Ramadan, and everybody is hungry. Or everybody's fasting, may not be hungry.

Main Body: The Question About Devils in Ramadan

Much times during Ramadan we get the question, if the Shaytan is locked up, and we all know the authentic narration, that when the doors in heaven open wide and hell is locked, devil's inside, that when Ramadan comes, the devils are chained, and the doors in heaven open up. But how is it, if the devils are chained down, that I'm still hearing this wiswasu shaytan? How is it that we can actually perceive and see the shayateen and the people doing their evil acts out in the street?

What's the reality of the shayateen being locked down? And that's what we're going to talk about today. To make some clarity inshallah once and for all.

Understanding Through Laylatul Qadr

The first thing that we have to understand in this issue is Laylatul Qadr. Put everything in context to Laylatul Qadr. Allah says in the Quran:

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ

"Without doubt we have sent it down, it meaning the Quran, Laylatul Qadr, the night of power, the night of the decree."

Reference: Quran 97:1

"And what will make you understand? And what will make you understand and know what Laylatul Qadr is?"

Reference: Quran 97:2

"Laylatul Qadr is a night whose essence is like, whose reality is like a thousand nights, a thousand months. A thousand months, which would be like 80 something years, approximately."

Reference: Quran 97:3

"During that night, the angels and Jibreel, the Holy Spirit, descend. And it's تَنَزَّلُ they're constantly descending during that night. What are they descending with?"

Reference: Quran 97:4

The Two Aspects of Laylatul Qadr

They're bringing, now we're talking about Laylatul Qadr in two aspects.

First, Laylatul Qadr was the night that the Quran was sent down from the الْمَلَ الْأَعْلَى From the highest part of the heaven to the سَمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا. Right? The lowest heaven.

Allah teaches us, and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم - ṣallā-llāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) teaches us that during Laylatul Qadr of every year, what's written on the اللَّوْحِ الْمَحْفُوظِ. What's written on the اللَّوْحِ الْمَحْفُوظِ the preserved tablet, the angels descend and bring it down from the اللُّوْحِ الْمَحْفُوظ to the lowest heaven. Everybody with me?

There's seven heavens. The lowest one سَمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا . Okay? And then when that قَدَرٌ and what's happening during Laylatul Qadr now, after the Quran has been revealed, it's revealed.

So what happens every other Laylatul Qadr? Every Laylatul Qadr, what happens is the رزق of the people. Who's going to die? Who's going to be born? How much money you're going to get? Things like this. Who's going to break their leg? Who's not going to break their leg? All the things that the قدر of Allah descend from the اللَّوْحِ الْمَحْفُوظِ on Laylatul Qadr, during Ramadan, every year.

And when they get to the lowest heaven, then when it's supposed to happen, the information of that comes down. Okay?

The Beautification of the Lowest Heaven

So now, with that in mind, take into consideration what Allah says. He says:

"He said, the fact of the matter is, we have beautified the lowest heaven,السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا with the beautification of stars, diamonds in the sky بِزِينَةِ الْكَوَاكِ "

Reference: Quran 37:6

Closing

"I say what I have said, and I seek forgiveness from Allah for myself and for you and for all Muslim men and women. So seek His forgiveness, indeed He is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
